Living Your Dream
Yesterday, I was driving between meetings, and I stopped at a gas station to restock on supplies. Here's our conversation:
Her: How’s your day going?
Me: Great! I’m living the dream.
Her: Who’s dream?
Me: (Caught off guard) Mine – it’s my life.
Her: (Caught off guard) You’re the first person who’s said that it was your dream.
I grabbed my drink and snack, then continued to my next stop. As I drove, pondering our conversation, I found it making me sad. If a person isn’t living their dream, whose are they living? Do they see themselves as living a nightmare? I don't know the situation of any of the people who came into the store before me, but could it really be that bad? Truth is, I don't think it is, and that’s what I’d like to discuss in this week’s thoughts on living your dream.
I originally typed several paragraphs about things that could be occurring that aren’t that bad, but as I sat here, staring at my screen, it didn't feel right for me to insinuate that I understand anyone's situation, so I deleted all of it. That's why this week’s thoughts are so short. I don't know your situation, and it's not my place to make assumptions about how you feel. Instead, I'm going to take a moment to briefly list some things I'm thankful for.
I’m thankful for my health.
I’m thankful for my family.
I’m thankful for my job.
I’m thankful for my home.
I’m thankful for daily opportunity.
While these are a few major things, I could go on listing things I'm thankful for, ranging from 5 a.m. walks with my good friend Dave, to watching my kids play, to air conditioning, and so on.
This leads me to this week's challenge… Count your blessings! Enjoy the little things, be grateful for the big things, and if possible, with the bad things be like Taylor Swift and shake it off. Dreams don't have to be perfect to be amazing. Embrace where you are and make it your dream.
I’m thankful that you were willing to go to work today, that you took the time to read this, and for being a part of what makes this world wonderful!
Have an amazing day!
